What Would You Finally Say?

Let’s talk about something we all have, yet many of us are hesitant to use.

Our Voice.

There was a time when I believed that before I spoke, I had to know more, accomplish more, or wait for the perfect moment.  I was fearful that what I had to say would not matter as much as the next person’s voice.  But over the years, I've learned something different.  There will always be someone with more followers, a bigger platform, a longer resume, a louder voice, or a more polished presentation.  But my voice still matters.

So, I have a question.  If fear wasn’t part of the equation, what would you finally say?  Not, what would you do, or where would you go or who would you become.  Rather, what would you say?  Sometimes, the thing standing between where we are and where we want to be, is not a lack of talent, preparation, or even opportunity.  Sometimes, it’s simply the words that we haven’t allowed ourselves to speak.

Your Voice Matters.

Your voice is more than the words that come out of your mouth.  It’s your perspective, experiences, questions, boundaries, creativity, and of course, your truth.  Whether you're building a business, writing a book, leading a team, or simply encouraging someone through a conversation, your voice has the power to create connection.  Sometimes we underestimate the impact of a single conversation, a thoughtful message, or a story shared at just the right time.

You may never know who needed to hear what only you could say.  That's why comparison is so dangerous.  When we try to sound like everyone else, we slowly silence the very thing that makes us memorable.  The world doesn't need another copy.  It needs people who are willing to speak with honesty, intentionality, and purpose.

Your voice is the way you tell the world, “I am here and I have something to say.”  And your voice does not become valuable because everyone agrees with it, nor does it become invaluable if no one agrees with your perspective.  Rather, your voice becomes valuable because it's authentic.  No one else has lived your life or learned your lessons exactly the way you have.  No one else sees the world through your eyes.

Fear is Normal.  Silence Doesn’t Have to Be.

Fear is a normal human response, and to be honest, fear isn’t going anywhere.  It especially shows up when you are standing at the edge of something unfamiliar such as that business you've been afraid to launch, the book you've been waiting to write, the conversation you've been avoiding, or the dream you've convinced yourself can wait.

But fear doesn’t mean don’t do it, and the goal isn’t to eliminate fear.  The goal is to stop allowing fear to make every decision for you.

You can be afraid and still speak.

You can be nervous and still raise your hand.

You can worry about rejection, and still make the pitch.

When I walked down the runway during the Evolution Runway Show during Philly Fashion Week, my stomach was filled with butterflies.  I was super nervous.  But I didn’t let that stop me.  I pushed through and did it anyway, and I was so proud of myself.

Ultimately, you cannot build the life, career, business, relationships, or creative expression that you so desire if you allow fear to stop you from letting your authentic voice take up space.  Besides, someone, somewhere may need to hear what you have to say.  Perhaps something you’ve experienced may help them as they navigate those same circumstances.  Maybe a story you’ve been reluctant to tell may be the catalyst that makes another person feel less alone.  And maybe a question you’ve been afraid to ask may open a conversation that needed to happen.

Your words may give someone permission to finally use their own.  Your voice matters.  Use it to encourage.  Use it to create.  Use it to lead.

"Your voice is more than words. It is the bridge between your purpose and the people you're meant to reach."
